Astronomical Observation

Whom is this for?

  • General Public
  • Astrophysics Lovers
  • Familiar Sesions
  • Science Students
  • School Groups
  • Astronomy Beginners

How long is it?

  • 2 hours long (approximately)
  • 4 or 5 groups
  • from 15 to 20 persons in each group
  • about 20 minutes for each group

The duration and planning can be adapted to the kind of event you are looking for.

What is it?

We look at the stars and marvel with the startling spectacle. The night sky is undoubtedly incredible, enjoying a night in open air and far from the city is a unique experience. Yet after observing the sky for a while we realize that all the star seem to be the same, how could you know if you are looking to a star or to a different object?, how can you recognize constellations?, were are those incredible astronomical objects that we see in the pictures?

Our astronomers will answer those questions and guide you in an adventure through the night sky. You will learn to recognize constellations, comets, planets... And you will have the opportunity to use a telescope to observe the objects that are visible that night. A full experience for children and adults to discover the cosmos.

Moreover, while other groups are observing we will complete the activity with a constellations workshop.

What can we observe?

The objects that are visible vary with the observation place, the date and the meteorological conditions.

Depending on the night, we may see:

  • Planets
  • Binary Systems
  • The MilkyWay
  • Constellations
  • Clusters
  • Emission Nebulae
  • Comets
  • Moons
  • Stars
  • Galaxies
  • Planetary Nebulae
  • The Moon
  • Falling Stars

If you are looking for something in particular contact us to check the viability.

Constellations Workshop:

To complete the activity, while other groups are observing we offer a constellations workshop guided by a professional.

Topics:

  • Constellations
  • Stars
  • The colour of stars
  • Distance to the stars
  • ¿How the light moves?

Objectives:

  • Learn orientation in the night (find the North with the stars).
  • Promote familiar scientific experiences.
  • Observe the universe with a telescope, get started in astronomy.
  • Observe the objects that appear in astronomy books and in the internet.
  • Arouse the interest for science in families (so that at home parents help their children to develop more interest and curiosity in this kind of activities),
  • Learn about constellations.

How the activity works:

The planing is as it follows:

  • Our team goes to he observing place and prepares the activity.
  • Brief explanation about the usage and utilities of telescopes.
  • Identification of objects in the sky.
  • Observation and workshop.

Essential requirements:

  • Calm weather and clear skies.
  • Flat and clear location.
  • With no light and as far away from light-pollution as possible.
  • Accesible to our vehicle with no risk to the equipment.
  • Half an hour to mount and half an hour to clear up.

Technical Team:

Technical Team provided by Interplanetary Journey:

  • Professional Astronomers and Astrophysics,
  • Space Monitors.
  • Coordinator.
