Mission 1: Journey through the Solar System

What is it?

It's an educational activity designed for students to increase their knowledge about the universe, through an interactive journey where they will observe, in a realistic way, different elements of the space.
To do so we have a video, specifically created for the activity, which simulates the front of a spaceship. Thanks to different sensory equipment, lights, laser, smoke and our educator-actress, Captain Lili, children activate their imagination and get into an amazing space adventure.

What will you learn in "Mission 1"?

You will learn the main features of our Solar System, the objects that compose it and  the current missions of the different space agencies studying our solar system.

List of topics for 2nd and 3rd grade of pre-primary school:

  • Order and main features of the 8 planets of our Solar System
  • Differences between rocky planets and gaseous planets
  • The movements of rotation and translation
  • What are the orbits of the planets?
  • What is a galaxy?
  • The Milky Way
  • The Sun our Star
  • The man on the Moon
  • Asteroids

List of topics for Primary school:

  • Order and main features of the 8 planets of our Solar System
  • Rocky planets and gaseous planets
  • The Milky Way
  • The Sun, its composition and its importance for life on Earth
  • Differences between natural satellite and artificial satellite
  • Number of natural satellites of the different planets
  • Apollo missions on the Moon
  • Pluto, why is it a dwarf planet?
  • What is a comet?
  • Water in the Solar System
  • Voyager:  what is his mission?

Other things we will learn

To make the mission a success, it is very important to make a good team in the spaceship. All crew members have to take care of each other and of the equipment, because if something breaks during the trip we can not return to Earth to buy another one.

When we leave, the Earth conditions change, and the astronauts have to be well trained to deal with the difficult conditions in space. It is also very important to do daily exercise and to eat healthy.

Sharing, taking care of  the equipment  and of our friends, doing daily exercise and having fun, while learning, are some of the things that we will learn besides our Solar System.

Methodology

To understand better the knowledge they are learning, children can touch different simulations of lunar rocks, sand of Mars, pieces of the rings of Saturn and other elements, to wake up their sensory memory and to make them associate what they are touching with what they are watching.
Thanks to the explanations of Captain Lili, audiovisual aids and different sensory elements, we make the learning dynamic, fun and complete.

How does the activity work?

Our team moves to schools to make the participation of students in scientific activities easier, so they don't have to travel to other centers.

We carry everything required for the activity. The only thing we need is a room or empty classroom to stay in complete darkness to project and plugs to connect our equipment.

The children sit on the floor to live more the experience and feel they are free to move around. If the floor is too cold, the school must provide mats for children to sit in.
You can also use the school hall and the children can sit in armchairs, if needed.

Duration

The session lasts about 1 hour, but we can reduce it to 50 minutes if needed.

At the end of the journey every child will receive a certificate for completing Mission 1.

How can I bring the event to my center?
